One of our highlights from Glastonbury was the ever glamorous Dolly Parton. She’s been accused of miming and heavily criticised for the performance but in our eyes, Dolly is always a Queen.
One of the reasons she is so iconic is the way she dresses. The rhinestones, the stark white, the fringing, the leather – it’s all part of a modern day country singer’s look and crucial to Dolly’s stage presence.
The man behind some of the most famous outfits in country music history is Nudie Cohn. Ukrainian born and a resident of the USA for most of his life, Nudie designed and made the outfits for stars such as Elvis, Elton John, John Wayne, Cher, John Lennon and of course, Dolly Parton. Arguably, his most famous creation is the gold lame suit Elvis wore on the cover of his ’50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can’t Be Wrong’ album.
Sadly Nudie Cohn died in 1984, aged 81, but his widow and daughter make sure that his legacy lives on to today. The country music stars of the moment still look to Cohn designs for inspiration and his overtly glamorous style will have its place in history forever.
